Last week we looked at the second of 3 things that NLP techniques AREN’T a replacement for – open sensory channels. This week we’re going to explore the third thing that they’re NOT a replacement for, behavioural flexibility. To paraphrase Bandler & Grinder, language patterns are not a substitute for open sensory channels, a sense of direction, & behavioural flexibility. What do I mean by behavioural flexibility?
I was up late, watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer with my 9 year-old daughter recently, when I decided it was time for her to go to bed. She started wheedling & protesting, but I said “Whining never works” & she stopped immediately, then asked “Daddy, what would have to happen for you to let me stay up & watch the rest of Buffy?”

Last week we looked at a technique for combining anchoring & ambiguity for positive future-pacing, “riding the yes-wave”. This week we’re going to play with another NLP essential, getting the body involved.
