"What Quentin Tarantino, Eddie Izzard & JFK share with the originators of NLP isn't just linguistic skill - it's the UNIQUE PERSPECTIVES behind the words"
How would you like to become a conversational change wizard, & learn to the secrets of thought & expression that will give you the kind of reputation for results that means you can name your price & achieve things most people never even dream of?
The thing that first sparked my interest in NLP & language was the idea that we each have an unconscious mind, & that it's possible to communicate directly with a person's unconscious. But what really inspired me to take action & develop powerful linguistic skills was something entirely different...
You see, when I was younger, one of the things that really blew me away was people who were able to take a unique & empowering perspective on things. This showed up in a variety of ways...
- On a project I was working on, one of the directors would consistently use analogies & metaphors that changed the way people were thinking about a specific problem or challenge.
- A friend of mine could be counted on to give a unique view on a situation. As it happened, this friend was unusually successful financially, & with members of the opposite sex.
- I loved the way my favourite comedians could tell a joke or a funny store that would transform the way I perceived a situation.
I was always deeply impressed by people who could do this, but I thought that it was just something they were born with. It never occurred to me that you can learn this skill for yourself, because I didn't realise it was a skill in the first place!
Then I started learning NLP, & everything changed.
It is a skill, & it's called reframing.
- Reframing is what Milton Erickson was so exquisite at.
- Reframing is what comedians are doing when they make you laugh.
- It's what film-makers do when they put a twist in the plot.
And it's what Robert Dilts modeled from Richard Bandler when he developed the patterns that are now called Sleight-of-Mouth.
Sleigh-of-mouth is one of the most powerful linguistic tools there is. It's the toolset for conversational belief-change, & includes dozens of reframing patterns. Imagine being able to:
- Eliminate limiting beliefs for yourself & others (this is a HUGE key for clearing the obstacles that hold people back)
- Create powerful, positive belief-sets that support & empower you
- Master conversational belief-change, traditionally the domain of only the most skilled & experienced coaches, therapists, salespeople, speakers & NLP-ers.
- Turbo-charge your coaching & influence skills
- Achieve your goals & bring your dreams to life
This is what Sleight-of-mouth offers. There's only one problem.
It's got a reputation for being NOTORIOUSLY difficult to learn.
That's why so many people who go on NLP courses end up doing those "annoying little reframes" that make people want to punch them on the nose. Because they haven't learned the keys to making sleight of mouth work effectively & elegantly.
Is it really possible to learn sleight of mouth, quickly & easily?
Fortunately, when I was told it was difficult to learn, I decided not to believe it! I became determined to find a way for people to learn the legendary Sleight of Mouth patterns quickly & easily (most people only learn this stuff after spending thousands on Master Practitioner training, & even then, only if they're lucky!)
Last year, we launched our Sleight of Mouth DVD, & had our biggest sales demand of all time! A few months later we launched the Conversational Belief-Change Accelerator programme, again to record sales.
And still, we get hundreds of emails saying "Give us the cards! Give us the cards!"
NLP Belief Buster Cards
So I've relented. I've decided to offer the NLP Belief Buster Sleight of Mouth cards (previously unavailable by themselves) as a special January offer, complete with one of our most powerful free bonuses ever. But before I tell you about the amazing bonuses, let me tell you about the patterns you're going to get:
- A question for uncovering the "hidden benefit" that's been keeping a limiting belief in place. Unless you connect with this, everything you do to try & change the belief will make it more deeply entrenched! (King of hearts)
- A perceptual frame that allows you to "go inside" their belief & discover the presuppositions that keep it in place (presuppositions are "what must be true" for the belief to make sense). When you can work at the level of presupposition, it looks like magic! (Queen of hearts)
- An essential mindset for doing belief-change work, & ensuring you don't trigger the limiting belief's self-defense systems (if you've ever been trying to convince someone of something & they became defensive, it's because you didn't have this mindset). (Jack of hearts)
- A tool for massively deepening rapport, without matching body language. It's so powerful that you can even do this over the phone. (10 of hearts)
- A way of subtly reframing even the most challenging belief as "just a perception". This tool is so powerful that the person you're working with won't even notice it consciously, but the unconscious mind gets the message instantly). (9 of hearts)
- A classic reframing tool for finding value in even the most limiting of behaviours, beliefs or mindsets. (8 of hearts)
- A question you can use to change the meaning of absolutely anything. Shakespeare famously said "There is no good nor bad but thinking makes it so." This tool will help you use what Shakespeare knew to create powerful lasting change. (7 of hearts)
- The question that used to be banned in NLP training, but that's actually really useful for uncovering the conscious-mind story a person's been telling themselves to keep the belief in place. This is typically unconscious, but like an iceberg, the most important bit is under the surface. You need to get this into the open before you can make changes. (6 of hearts)
- A tool for uncovering the unconscious structure of a belief, the pictures, sounds & feelings a person uses to make a belief seem true. This is one of the essentials of rapid belief-change. (5 of hearts)
- A question for getting a person to go outside their limited model of themselves & their world. People won't do anything until they first imagine doing it; this simple question will take them there, even if they're convinced that "I can't..." (4 of hearts)
- A tool that reveals their unconscious obstacles. The cool thing is, they can't NOT show you! (3 of hearts)
- A question for finding out how they've been gluing the belief together, & simultaneously inviting them to re-evaluate the meaning they've been making (beliefs are all about meaning) (2 of hearts)
- A tool for getting at the causal relationships in the belief structure. People think in terms of cause-effect relationships, A causes B. But beliefs are often built on false causes - just because breakfast comes before lunch doesn't mean breakfast causes lunch. This tool will help you identify & loosen those causal links (Ace of hearts)
- One of my favourite patterns for skilfully discombobulating a limiting belief, & getting them to imagine a new, empowering possibility (King of clubs)
- A pattern for using the intention of the limiting belief as a springboard for new possibilities (Queen of clubs)
- Everyone has values, the things that are important to them. This pattern allows you to re-evaluate the belief using what's most important to a person, with dramatic effects (Jack of clubs)
- A way to direct a person's attention to something they hadn't even thought of, & change the belief in the process (this is akin to 'redirection' used by magicians). (10 of clubs)
- Did you know that you can change a belief just by changing a single word or phrase in it? You'll discover how with this deceptively simple pattern. (9 of clubs)
- A tool for discovering some of the new, empowering beliefs a person would like to have (it's good to start lining these up before you shift the old belief, so they've got something useful to grab onto). (8 of clubs)
- A pattern for bringing the consequence of a belief into awareness (use this carefully, because you can get some really powerful shifts using this pattern). (7 of clubs)
- A simple question that gets a person to generate examples of where their limiting belief hasn't been true! People can always do, on some level, what they say they can't, & when they start generating counterexamples themselves, you're heading in the right direction. (6 of clubs)
- A simple way of using someone else's view of reality to get leverage on a belief. (5 of clubs)
- A pattern you can use to create a new belief ABOUT a limiting belief (this is pretty wild!) (4 of clubs)
- A variation that you can use to completely change the focus of a belief (this has to be handled with care - rapport is absolutely essential for this one, or it could blow up in your face). (3 of clubs)
- A method of subjectively rating a belief so you can measure changes in a way that makes sense to you and to the person you're working with. (2 of clubs)
- A pattern you can use to generate powerful metaphors & analogies to instantly & deeply reframe a limiting belief. (Ace of clubs)
- One of my favourite questions for subtly inviting someone to imagine their desired future with new, empowering beliefs (remember, no-one does anything until they imagine it). (King of diamonds)
- A way of taking a criticism & turning it into an action plan in a single sentence! (If you ever get criticised, either by others or even yourself, this pattern's worth the price of the whole package on its own!) (Queen of diamonds)
- A pattern for directing a person's attention to the larger outcome & purpose that the belief's been standing in the way of. If you don't do this, you may be in danger of actually reinforcing the limiting belief as you try to help them! (Jack of diamonds)
- A little-known pattern for using a tag question to connect two phrases in a way that creates a sort of verbal swish pattern - very hypnotic! (10 of diamonds)
- A simple tool for making anyone who's saying "I can't..." instantly more resourceful. I've used this pattern to get people who were saying "I can't afford it..." to start asking the question "How can I afford it?" This engages the creative unconscious, to great effect. (9 of diamonds)
- Did you know that the first word you use after someone states a limitation can have a dramatic effect on their perception of the problem, & actually start them future pacing? Would you like to know what that word is? You'll find out on the 8 of diamonds.
- A pattern you can use to take the negative thought someone's been thinking & put it into the background, with something more positive in the foreground. This is one of my favourite influence patterns when it comes to changing beliefs. (7 of diamonds)
- A few simple phrases you can use to build deeper rapport with everyone you meet (these are particularly crucial if you want to ask someone a lot of questions.) (6 of diamonds)
- A super-subtle pattern you can use to stop someone generalising a limitation (people tend to think that a limitation is universal, that it's always the case - this will reframe that). (5 of diamonds)
- A powerful pattern that uses presupposition to eliminate negative identity perceptions (when someone says "I am shy" or "I am lazy", they're compounding their difficulties - this pattern will help them become more resourceful.) (4 of diamonds)
- Another powerful presupposition pattern for de-generalising a limiting belief (I learned these presupposition patterns from Chris Hall, & it still blows my mind how useful they are). (3 of diamonds)
- Patterns for drilling down into what someone's believing, & helping them to become more resourceful (2 and Ace of diamonds)
- Three patterns for changing the frame size of a belief. This is one of the most powerful patterns there is for belief-change. You may even have heard it used by amazing speakers like Gandhi or JFK. In fact it's so powerful, I've done three cards using it - using perspectives, numbers & time. Dynamite! (King, Queen & Jack of Spades)
- Two patterns for doing "belief-change Aikido". These are my favourite sleight-of-mouth patterns, because they instantly get the belief working to change itself! (10 & 9 of spades)
- A pattern for chunking down into the belief, & one for chunking up. The chunk-up is the one I find most difficult (something about the way my mind works), so I've taken extra care to make it explicit. (8 & 7 of spades)
- Another metaphor pattern (I can't get enough of these). Metaphor & analogy are such powerful communicators to the unconscious mind, so I really like using them. (6 of spades)
- A pattern for "toning down" dramatic language & subtly "chilling out" a difficult situation. If you've ever got to deal with "drama queens", this pattern is worth its weight in gold. (5 of spades)
- A tool for finding out where out-of-date "rules" came from. This is especially useful in those "It's just the way it is" situations. (4 of spades)
- A question for getting someone to contextualise a belief. If you don't do this, you may be running in the wrong direction! (3 of spades)
- One of my favourite questions for "getting started" in any kind of belief-change or coaching session. I've probably asked this question more times in my life than anything else. (2 of spades)
- A powerful modelling tool to get a person to actually teach you how they believe something (and in the process, to reframe them from "victim" to "expert"). Supercool! That's why its the Ace of spades!

"Dear Salad, I wanted to write and tell you just how much value I have found in the Salad NLP Language Cards. My goal was to use the cards to coach myself to set goals and overcome limiting beliefs that have, until now, prevented me from living the life I want. For that reason, I have found the NLP Coaching Cards to be the most valuable personal growth purchase I have ever made. By themselves the Coaching Cards are fantastic, and I was very excited to find that Salad released a deck of Belief Buster Cards. Finally, the 1-2 punch I have been looking for to detoxify my system of beliefs and ideas that had been hiding like ninja's sabotaging my success. Furthermore, the Belief Buster DVD really unlocks the power of the cards and shows you how to use them for maximum effect. Thank you Jamie Smart and the Salad team. It is not an exaggeration to say the Salad NLP Language Cards have changed my life and will help me to help others change their lives."

Tips for Conversational Belief Change
- Rapport is essential!
- Assume the person can do (on some level) what they say they can’t.
- Assume & uncover the positive intention / purpose of the belief.
- Acknowledge the reality of the situation.
- Determine the belief’s structure.
- The belief will be represented in the body in some way. Belief-change will involve state-change.
- Remember that beliefs are self-protective, survival oriented, & tend to travel in packs!
- Presuppose that beliefs are perceptions.
- Wire in the language patterns on these cards & enjoy experimenting with them.
- Know your outcome, & be present, aware & intuitive. Language patterns are not a
substitute for a sense of direction, open sensory channels, & behavioural flexibility.
