“The Extraordinary Purple Persuasion Pill”

Imagine a purple pill containing a compound so powerful, that taking it in the morning can increase your persuasiveness with every single person you speak to throughout the day. Then picture yourself having a large packet of these pills, enough to take one every day for nearly two months. The great thing is, the effect of these persuasion pills is cumulative: you actually become more influential every day that you take them! And the best thing of all? There’s no downside. The only ‘side-effects’ are having more of the experiences and results you want in your life.

If you haven’t already guessed it, these ‘persuasion pills’ are in fact our Irresistible Influence Cards. Many people have asked what the difference is between the Irresistible Influence Cards and our Ericksonian Hypnosis Cards. To put it in a nutshell: Influence cards will help you get clients, hypnosis cards will show you what to do with them once you’ve got them. Of course, Irresistible Influence Cards are not just for closing deals and making money – you can use them in any area of your life where you want to get people to come round to your way of thinking. You can learn more and get your own deck at: http://www.saladltd.co.uk/irresistable_influence_card_decks.htm

*** Eligible Batchelor Offers £1000 For Introduction ***

As you may know, my partner and I split up last year, so we’re selling the family home. We’ve got it listed with an online estate agent, but we’re happy to pay £1000 to anyone who can point the successful buyer in our direction. So, who do you know who’d like to live in a charming city-centre property that’s less than a mile from some of the most breathtakingly beautiful woodlands in the country? If they buy the property and the sale completes, and they mention that you referred them we’ll pay you a grand. Details of the house are at:

* Are You Ready To Live The Life You Desire? *

For the first thirty years of my life, I felt like I was waiting for my life to begin. I was considered successful in my work, and made plenty of money, but I always felt like there was something more, something I was REALLY meant to be doing. Then everything changed, and I started on the most amazing journey of my life, a journey which continues to this day.  Would you like to:

- Let go of the patterns that hold you back

- Stop waiting for something that doesn’t seem to show up

- Start enjoying each day and living in the now

- Stop seeking and start finding

- Open up to the life you desire

- Stop worrying and start living

This Week’s Tip

Hello everyone, welcome to this week’s newsletter & to the 23 new subscribers who have joined us this week (to see previous tips, go to http://www.saladltd.co.uk/archive.htm).

I first visited London when I was 16 years old. On my first day alone in the city, I got completely lost, and ended up exploring some of the less salubrious parts of the city by bus, underground, and ultimately by taxi. Why did I get lost? Because I was using the wrong map.

The famous London Underground map is an excellent map for navigating London’s enormous underground train system. However, it’s next to useless for navigating above ground. By the same token, the London A to Z is great for finding your way round above ground, but is not much help once you get below the surface. Of course, there are places above ground where even the A to Z is of no use: specifically, developments and estates that were created after the most recent edition of the A to Z was published.

This was for me an excellent demonstration of one of the presuppositions of NLP: The map is not the territory.

The map is not the territory

The statement ‘The map is not the territory’ is attributed to Korzybski, who created the field of general semantics. Korzybski’s point was this:

People don’t respond directly to reality, but rather to the ‘maps’ or ‘models’ of reality they have created (based on information received via the senses and combined with stored information previously received), and that exist in their nervous systems.

When someone has a problem, challenge or issue, the problem typically does not actually ‘exist’ in the world, but rather in the person’s map of the world.

*** Newsflash - This is not true! ***

The idea that the map is not the territory, that a problem, challenge or issue does not actually ‘exist’ in the world, is not actually true. It’s what we call a presupposition of NLP: this means that when you act as though it’s true, you can get good results in helping yourself and others to find solutions to problems and enhance existing results.

Nevertheless, if you ever break your arm, I strongly suggest that you get someone to drive you to hospital and get it set.

Get a better map

So when someone has a problem or challenge in their personal life, or some aspect of their work-life, it can be useful to consider it as a limitation in their map of the world, rather than in the world itself. By helping someone update their map of the world, their problems, issues or limitations can be resolved and sometimes just disappear.

By the same token, a person who demonstrates great talents and abilities has a rich map of the world (at least in those areas). We can all enrich our maps of the world and live happier, more vibrant, fulfilling lives.

So how can you enrich a person’s map of the world?

Well, bear in mind that your map of the world is being enriched constantly, so what we are really talking about is enriching it in a specific area or context. ‘Deliberate’ approaches for enriching a person’ maps and models include:

- Using the NLP meta-model to ask a high-quality question

- Doing a guided visualization

- Using one of the formal NLP techniques

- Using hypnosis

- Adding in a ‘missing sense’ (see below)

To get a real demonstration of how powerful your maps are, do the following:

1)      Write out a description of some problem or challenge you are currently experiencing, as though you are telling a friend about it. Then go through it highlighting any sensory words you used.

The sensory words will give you an indication of which sensory system this issue or challenge is most represented in (Eg. visual, auditory, feelings etc - You can learn more about sensory words by reading NLP tip #6 http://www.saladltd.co.uk/salad%20pages/Nlp%20tips/nlp_tip_6.htm)

For example:

I am always trying to keep my desk tidy, but no matter how often I get it clear, as soon as I look away, it’s messy again. It’s very frustrating. The annoying this is that when I do a proper clear-out, and get it all neatened up, it only seems to take a few days before it’s messy again.

Visual:

- tidy

- clear?

- look

- messy

- clear-out?

- neatened

Feeling:

- frustrating

- annoying

- clear-out?

Auditory:

- clear?

Just a quick look at the passage above will reveal that for me, this is mostly represented in the visual system, and least of all in the auditory system.

2)      Determine which sensory system is used the most in your example, and which one is used the least (out of the top three – visual, auditory, feeling). Then, write it out again, using the language of the most under-used sensory system.

For example, using the auditory system:

I’ve told myself 100 times that I must get in harmony with my personal space, but whenever I try to get in tune with my environment, I play the wrong note. Let me tell you about my desk: I’d like to have it organized like a symphony, with all the different parts sounding the right notes at the right time, but at the moment, it’s cacophony.

Once you’ve written it out using the missing sensory system, read it aloud. You may be blown away by the effect this has. People often get some very strange sensations from doing this exercise, and believe me: you will not experience it just by reading about it.

Enriching people’s sensory maps is one of the most basic things we teach in NLP, but it is incredibly powerful. If you want to learn how to do this and all the other methods mentioned above for enriching people’s maps, they are all covered on our NLP Practitioner training, which starts on 21 October. ·         Earn more money

·         Influence more people, ethically & effectively

·         Increase average order values & close ratios

·         Enjoy the influence process more and more each day

Dear Salad

I have just listened to the Ethical Influence CDs for the sixth time. The more I listen, the more I learn, this is fantastic stuff. I am an NLP Practitioner already but really learned some amazing new stuff from this programme. I have listened to Jamie present a couple of times before this and believe that he is an excellent communicator and really embeds the training well. I find that, you can do this stuff all of the time.

Oh, and I love the “Pizza Walk” that is really the best bit. You can do just about anything, after that.

Keep doing it well

Regards

Andrew Hoyle
